Appointments

I saw an ad for HairCUSTOMIZED. Can I schedule an appointment online?

No, a hair consultation is always required for all new and transfer clients before scheduling any appointment with HairCUSTOMIZED. However, returning clients can schedule an appointment online.

Do I really need a consultation before booking a service?

Yes. Every new client must complete a consultation first so your hair type, goals, timing, and pricing can be properly planned.

How do I schedule a consultation?

As a new or transfer client, we offer private and customized consultations to discuss your hair goals and provide expert recommendations tailored specifically for you. In person consultations are preferred, but we can accommodate virtual consultations for select styles. Please contact our Sales Team at 240-443-4219 to schedule a consultation.

How far in advance should I book my appointment?

An appointment can be booked up to 3 months in advance in our online system, however we suggest booking follow-up appointments the same day as you receive your services and before leaving the salon to ensure you receive a suitable date and time that works for both you and your loctician. You may always contact our Sales Team at 240-443-4219 if you need assistance booking an appointment.

What should I do if I’m running late for my appointment?

Please notify HairCUSTOMIZED’s Sales Team at 240-443-4219 as soon as possible. HairCUSTOMIZED has a 15-minute grace period. After 15 minutes, your appointment may be canceled at the loctician's discretion, in addition your deposit will not be refunded. If allowed to reschedule, a $50 convenience fee will be added.

Can I bring my own hair care products to the salon?

Our salon uses professional, high quality products that our staff have been trained to use and are specifically chosen to ensure the best results for your hair. Therefore, we kindly ask that you not bring your own products.

Can I bring my own hair to the salon?

Please consult with your loctician, but hair can be purchased via HairCUSTOMIZED. Purchasing hair through HairCUSTOMIZED is recommended to ensure quality and a satisfactory outcome.

What services do you provide?

HairCUSTOMIZED provides loc services, loose natural services, braided extensions, cornrows, and make-up artistry services. Please contact our Sales Team at 240-443-4219 for additional information.

Are your services really chemical-free?

Yes. All hair services are performed without harsh chemicals to protect your natural texture and maintain healthy hair growth.

I’m not sure which loc style is best for me. Can you explain the difference between Sistalocs, Instaloc, Belle Microlocs, and Microlocs?

Many people do not understand the differences between the many loc and/or natural haircare services available to them. Therefore, HairCUSTOMIZED makes it a point to explain the differences and customize your services during the consultation. Please contact our Sales Team at 240-443-4219 or view our policy and procedures for additional information.

Is hair included with extension services?

No. Hair is purchased separately, but recommended options are provided to ensure quality, consistency, and the best final result.

What are the prices for your services?

HairCUSTOMIZED has a starting price list, because all prices are tailored to each client they are subject to change depending on hair length, hair density, and any add-on services required to complete the style.

How do deposits and payments work?

A deposit is required to secure your appointment, and it goes toward your total cost. The remaining balance is paid on service day.

How long do appointments usually take?

Service time varies by style and hair density, but most appointments range from three hours to a full-day session.

Do you offer special promotions?

Yes, take a look at all of HairCUSTOMIZED’s gift certificates, packages, and subscriptions on our website before booking your service.

Do you accept walk-ins or same day service?

To ensure each client receives a one-on-one customized salon experience, HairCUSTOMIZED does not accept walk-ins or same day service.

Is there parking at your salon?

There is ample free parking available in the front of our building.

Do you service children?

We only service children, 16 and older at HairCUSTOMIZED.

Can I bring my children with me?

We only allow children, 16 and older, that are being serviced in the salon.

Do I need to come shampooed?

All of our services include a shampoo, but if you would like to decrease the time of your service you can shampoo your hair prior to your appointment.

Are you able to accommodate a wheelchair?

Yes, our location is wheelchair accessible.

How long will it take for my hair to loc?

Generally it takes one year for your hair to loc. This will vary from person to person based on their hair texture, how often the hair is professionally serviced, and also the tighter the hair’s natural curl pattern, the sooner it will loc.

Is beeswax bad for your hair?

Beeswax can be damaging to hair if one isn’t professionally trained to use it. There is a proper way to apply beeswax to hair and professional natural hair stylists should use it only. Also, lint and dirt can get trapped in your locs and cause build up.

How frequently should I have my locs professionally serviced?

Every four to six weeks depending on the style.

If I cut my locs, will they unravel?

It takes locs an average of one year to mature. If you cut your locs prior to maturity the chance of your hair unraveling increases.

Is it okay to loc with synthetic or artificial hair?

No, never use synthetic or artificial hair to loc your hair! No matter what a stylist tells you, do not allow them to loc your natural hair with synthetic or artificial hair—the appearance is bad and is very difficult to remove afterwards. However, you can loc your natural hair with human hair.

Do I have to cut out all of my chemical hair relaxer to go “natural” or wear locs?

It is preferred practice to do so in order to allow the hair to be in the best condition possible without further damage. However, it is not necessary.

How long should I wear my loc extensions?

Loc extensions are permanent, should be undetectable (if done properly), and can be worn as long as you like.

Is it okay to wash my hair with new locs?

Yes, with microlocs your hair should be washed every two to four weeks, preferably by a professional, to prevent loc unraveling.
